About

One industry. Done properly.

Source Talent is a Sydney business that places offshore construction professionals inside Australian building companies. We chose one industry on purpose, and we'd rather be the best option for builders than a passable option for everyone.

Why construction

Because the squeeze is structural.

Australian construction is running the tightest margins and the worst payment terms of any sector in the country, into the biggest labour shortage in a generation. Around a quarter of every business failure in Australia is a construction business, and FY25 set the record.

Meanwhile there are roughly 486,000 workers the industry needs and doesn't have. Half of trade roles and nearly half of professional roles are in shortage. An experienced estimator takes months to find and costs $130,000 before on-costs — which is precisely the hire a $3M builder needs and cannot possibly justify.

That gap doesn't close by working harder. It closes by getting skilled work done by skilled people at a cost the business can actually carry, so the owner can go back to running the company instead of quoting at 9pm. That's the entire thesis. Everything else on this site is detail.

What we believe

Four positions we won't move on.

01

Selection buys quality. Pay buys retention.

Paying more for an offshore hire gets you access to a better pool — it does not, on its own, get you a better worker. Quality comes from screening hard and testing on real work. So we pay above the local market and we run seven gates before you meet anyone. Providers who do only one of those two things produce the horror stories.

02

The country should fit the job.

Most providers in this market source from a single country, which means the country ends up picking the role. We recruit across several global talent markets and match the right one to each job — a phone-facing role and a heads-down technical one don't come from the same place. You get the strongest candidate for the work, not the only one a single-country agency had on the bench.

03

The person is an employee, not a gig.

Every seat is properly employed, on real terms, with statutory entitlements, health cover and a career path. That isn't charity — it's the reason they stay. Under-paid, under-protected offshore workers churn, and their churn becomes your churn.

04

If we need a contract to hold you, we've failed.

Ninety-day terms, thirty days' notice, no bonds, no deposits, no recruitment fee, no exit penalty. The lock-in contracts common in this industry exist to protect providers from their own churn. We'd rather fix the churn.

Where we sit

Between the marketplace and the BPO.

There are three ways to buy offshore labour in Australia and they are not the same product.

MarketplacesCheap, and you do everything — sourcing, screening, contracts, security, management and replacement. Fine if you have an HR function. Most builders don't.
Large outsourcersEnterprise pricing, hundred-seat contracts, long onboarding, and an account manager who has forty other clients. Built for corporates, not for a builder doing $4M.
Where we sitManaged placements for small businesses: we do the sourcing and screening, you interview and choose, we run the employment and performance, you direct the work. One seat at a time, scoped so a $1M builder can start.
And what makes us different inside that laneOne industry rather than twenty. Several source markets rather than one, so the country fits the job. And a guarantee that puts the cost of a bad match on us, in writing.

Twenty minutes. Bring your week.

Tell us where the hours are going. If a seat isn't the answer, we'll say so on the call.
